The city of Surfers Paradise, widely recognized as Australia's Playground, again hosted the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Australia Finals. This phenomenon takes place in February every year at the Islander Resort and it has been billed as Australia's wildest pool party.

Filling the catwalk

The Year 2001 event certainly lived up to the expectations and when the 22 stunning Miss Hawaiian Tropic Australia finalists filled up the runway extending into the resort pool, it was standing room only for the huge and extremely vocal audience.
The finalists represented premier entertainment venues and sponsors from all around Australia and they all had their sights firmly set on the coveted National Title and the all expenses paid trip to the Miss HT World Finals in Las Vegas.

Great outfits!

The 2001 Australian Final had it all! Toowoomba finalist Shelly Snow turned up the heat by juggling fire on stage! Meanwhile Samantha Redman, representing Vegas in Paradise, Surfers Paradise was busy handing out red cards in her capacity as a referee in the active wear section. Her “victims” were the special VIP guests who, through winning a radio contest, had scored themselves front row seats in the pool in the form of inflatable "donuts" kindly supplied by Wet'n'Wild Waterworld.

Let’s get physical!

The guys spent the whole afternoon enjoying the show while at the same time secretly wishing that one of the ladies would lose her balance, fall into the water and need rescuing.

The judging panel had their work cut out for them as they watched the girls first in the Active Sportswear section and then later, in the crowd pleasing Swimwear Section. While the judges pondered their decision, the poolparty kept rocking with an electrifying performance by The Flirtmodels dance team!

The smile of a winner

At the end of the day, it was stunning Melbourne pre school teacher and model Michelle Bartoli, 21, representing Inflation Nightclub who impressed the judges the most. Michelle was crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic Australia 2001 closely followed by first runner-up, Miss Photogenic by the pageant photographers while Erin Connor, 24, representing Glitz Designs, Robina, was chosen by the finalists as Miss Personality. The final was followed by a huge afterparty which started at Vegas in Paradise and then continued to the wee hours of the morning at Shooters Saloon Bar.
