It was a case of third time lucky for stunning Newcastle model Rebecca Ranclaud, 20, as she won the coveted title of Miss
Hawaiian Tropic Australia 2002 on Saturday 16th March at The Islander Resort in Surfers Paradise. Rebecca was still in a state of shock on Sunday morning as representatives from the media surprised her with a
champagne breakfast in bed. Rebecca had won her way into the National Final on two previous occasions and her highest placing prior to Saturday was second runner-up in 2001.
The Miss Hawaiian Tropic National Final is the culmination of an exhaustive 4 month long nationwide model search. It sees twenty of Australia’s top up-an-coming bikini models converge on Surfers Paradise
for a week of fun and rehearsals leading up to the spectacular national event. Soaking up the pool party atmosphere, the capacity crowd were treated a to a spectacular display of beauty as Australia's top
up-and-coming bikini models strutted their stuff on a specially constructed catwalk extending into the pool itself. They all had their sights firmly set on
the prestigious national title and the right to represent Australia in the world finals in Hawaii next month.
The judging panel included Miss Hawaiian Tropic Australia 2000 - Surfers
Paradise model Danielle Fyfe who was on hand to help select and crown her successor. The panel had a very hard task separating the national finalists, but after appearing first in active wear and then impressing the
judges in swimwear, Rebecca emerged as the winner.
Rebecca was sponsored by the Clubhouse Sports Bar in Surfers Paradise. She is 5’7” with brown hair and green eyes. She works in promotions and
her interests include surfing and travelling.
Rebecca’s prize package includes a return trip to the world finals in Hawaii in April including accommodation and meals at the spectacular Turtle Bay
Resort on the North Shore of Oahu and $500 spending money. She will also walk away a Diamond & Sapphire ring worth $1800 courtesy of CONNECT TO JEWELLERY and over $1,000 worth of high-tech body
toning equipment from the BODYTONE BEAUTY & HEALTH CENTRE. She will look stunning in an exclusive gown worth up to $600 courtesy of GLITZ DESIGNZ and she will receive $500 worth of photography from
PAUL HART PHOTOGRAPHICS.
Rebecca will have her own web site developed courtesy of PACNET ON-LINE CONSULTING and she gets a one year membership with AMTIN – The Australian Model & Talent Industry Network.
While in Hawaii, Rebecca will be competing for the world title against up to eighty (80) top swimwear models from all over the world.
She will meet celebrities and personalities from all fields of entertainment, arts and sport etc.. The judging panel often includes people like John
Casablancas - founding chairman of Elite Modelling Agency in New York, singers from supergroups like N*Sync and Backstreet Boys, sporting legends including NFL Superbowl champions and stars from hit TV series
and movies such as action star Jean Claude Van Damme.
First runner-up was Vas Demitriou, 28, representing The Bay Hotel in Mornington, Victoria. Vas received a $200 cash prize and $300 worth of
photography. Second runner-up was Joanne McDonell, 21, representing Area One Nightclub, Bunbury, Western Australia and she received a $100 cash prize and $100 worth of photography. In fact, it was a huge afternoon
for Joanne. In the Active Wear section, Joanne, an accomplished Irish dancer, performed a crowd pleasing “Riverdance” routine which earned her another $150 cash prize courtesy of Swimsuit International Magazine.
Joanne was also voted Miss Personality by the other finalists. Emily Rackemann, 20, representing Bobby McGees in Canberra, ACT, was selected as Miss Photogenic through a vote by the pageant
photographers and received a model portfolio photo shoot worth $500 from Paul Hart Photographics, as well as $150 cash prize courtesy of Swimsuit International Magazine.
